Miss. Melissa started her dance training here in Edmonton at the age of 5. Her love and commitment to dance led her to her first dance teaching position in January of 2000. Miss. Melissa has taught both recreational and competitive classes that have performed throughout Western Canada and the US, winning many choreography and performance awards. In 2006 she completed the three year teacher’s training course with the A.D.A.P.T. Jazz and Tap dance syllabus under the direction of the legendary Mr Foley & Mrs Foley.
Flexpointe Studios Inc. was created in 2006 to be a place where all students (competitive and recreational) would be provided with training from qualified instructors. Miss Melissa believed in the concept of a dance community. A place where parents, students and teachers work together to create a collaborative environment for learning and creating. Along with technical training; training in life skills such as hard work, commitment, collaboration, creativity and goal setting are integrated into the student experience.
A believer in life long learning, in 2012 Miss Melissa became the first Acrobatique Acro/Dance certified instructor in Edmonton and is currently working towards her Ballet member exam with the C.D.T.A. In 2013 Miss Melissa completed a Masters in Nursing with a focus on education. As a Registered Nurse Miss Melissa has worked in a variety of areas including the Emergency Department, Neuroscience care, Infection Prevention & Control, and teaching with the University of Alberta. She loves working with families and sees her leadership and teaching roles in dance as an extension of her nursing care. Helping dancers to gain positive life skills that they will take with them throughout their lives.
Miss. Melissa aspires to always instil confidence, creativity, hard word and the love of dance in all her students. She truly believes in the positive changes that education in the arts can have on a child’s life. She feels honoured to have the opportunity to lead such a qualified and talented staff, and is proud of the many accomplishments that her students have achieved.
